Pakistan launched Operation Bunyaan Un Marsoos on Saturday, May 10, 2025, executing precision missile strikes on seven Indian military sites in retaliation for Indian airstrikes on Pakistani air bases.

Named after a Quranic verse symbolising unity, the operation reflects Pakistan’s resolute defence, as the state-run Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) and security sources reported.

Quranic Inspiration and Strategic Action

إِنَّ اللَّهَ يُحِبُّ الَّذِينَ يُقَاتِلُونَ فِي سَبِيلِهِ صَفًّا كَأَنَّهُم بُنْيَانٌ مَّرْصُوصٌ

Derived from Surah Al-Saff (61:4), “Allah indeed loves those who fight in His Way as though they are a solid wall cemented with molten lead” Bunyaan al Marsoos signifies strength.

Chief of Army Staff General Syed Asim Munir recited this verse during Fajr prayers before the operation, invoking divine guidance. The strikes targeted Pathankot, Udhampur, Gujarat, and Rajasthan air bases, and a BrahMos missile storage site, aiming to counter Indian aggression.

Operation Bunyaan al Marsoos struck seven Indian military sites, including Pathankot and Udhampur, in response to Indian airstrikes.

Indian Airstrikes and Pakistan’s Defence

On Friday, May 9, India fired air-to-ground missiles at three Pakistan Air Force (PAF) bases: Nur Khan (Rawalpindi), Murid (Chakwal), and Shorkot.

Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry confirmed in a press conference that PAF assets remained unharmed, stating, “By the grace of Allah Almighty, all PAF assets are safe.” He warned of a “befitting response” and noted India’s missile and drone attacks in Afghanistan, suggesting a broader destabilising intent.

The operation follows heightened India-Pakistan tensions, sparked by India’s April 22, 2025, Pahalgam attack accusations and Operation Sindoor, targeting alleged terrorist sites in Pakistan. Pakistan denies involvement and accuses India of provocation. Chaudhry criticised India’s “paranoia” and vowed to protect national sovereignty, warning that further Indian actions would trigger escalated responses.
