NEW YORK: Pakistan and Bangladesh security cooperation will expand after the two countries’ interior ministers agreed. to strengthen border security, intelligence sharing and action against human trafficking at the United Nations headquarters.
Pakistan’s Federal Interior Minister Syed Mohsin Naqvi met Bangladesh’s Interior Minister Salahuddin Ahmed in New York.
The two ministers agreed to work more closely against drugs, human trafficking, border security threats and other international crimes.
They also discussed ways to improve direct contact between law enforcement agencies. Officials said both sides agreed to strengthen intelligence sharing.
The discussion also covered joint efforts against human smuggling and cross-border criminal networks.
Pakistan and Bangladesh also discussed wider security cooperation, including professional training and technology support for counter-narcotics work.

The Bangladeshi side requested Pakistan’s help on identity documents for citizens of Bangladeshi origin living in Pakistan.
Bangladesh also sought Pakistan’s continued support at the UN for the safe return of Rohingya refugees to Myanmar.
Both sides renewed their resolve to promote mutual trust, regional peace and security at the end of the meeting.
