Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR) Lieutenant General Ahmad Sharif Chaudhry emphasized the Pakistan Army’s commitment to self-accountability on Thursday.
Speaking at a press conference in Rawalpindi, he stated that the military’s internal accountability system is robust and ensures strict adherence to rules and regulations.
Lt. General Ahmad Sharif Chaudhry emphasized that the army activates its self-accountability mechanism whenever violations occur within its ranks. This process recently resulted in the court-martial of Lieutenant General (retired) Faiz Hameed. The Ministry of Defense received the case and forwarded it to the Pakistan Army, prompting a high-level inquiry in April 2024.
The inquiry concluded in August 2024 based on substantial evidence, revealing that the officer violated multiple Pakistani statutes. Lt. General Ahmad Sharif Chaudhry reaffirmed that the army maintains no political agenda.
Operations Against Terrorists
Lt. General Ahmad Sharif Chaudhry reported that security forces carried out 32,173 operations against terrorists and their facilitators in 2024. Last month, security forces eliminated 90 members of Al-Khawrij Fitna, while 193 Pakistan Army officers sacrificed their lives in the battle against terrorism.
Addressing the recent unrest in Balochistan, he confirmed that terrorists launched attacks on August 25 and 26, leading to the martyrdom of 14 security personnel and the deaths of 21 terrorists.
Lt. General Chaudhry acknowledged the “sense of deprivation” among the people of Balochistan, highlighting how foreign elements exploited this situation during the unrest. He warned militants and their supporters, asserting that the army would respond firmly and would not tolerate any terrorist activities.
