The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has issued a notification announcing an 18-paisa-per-unit decrease in electricity prices for Karachi consumers under the September 2024 monthly adjustment.
The reduction will be reflected in the December 2024 electricity bills. However, as the notification indicates, this reduction does not apply to consumers using up to 300 monthly units. Previously, K-Electric proposed a 16 paisa per unit decrease for the September adjustment and sought approval to return Rs 247 million to its consumers as part of this adjustment.
In contrast, NEPRA sanctioned a 40 paisa per unit increase in the electricity tariff for K-Electric consumers as part of the August 2024 monthly adjustment. This increase will be billed in January 2025.
Moreover, in November, K-Electric consumers faced an additional charge of Rs 3.17 per unit due to the June adjustment. An extra Rs 3.03 per unit will be added in December as part of the July 2024 adjustment.

Although K-Electric requested a 51 paisa per unit increase for August, NEPRA approved only a 40 paisa increase. The notification for this tariff hike has been issued, and consumers will consequently incur higher electricity costs.
Additionally, K-Electric has announced a Rs 2.17 per unit adjustment for November, which, when added to the existing rate of Rs 3.17 per unit, totals Rs 4.91 per unit.
K-Electric also announced a quarterly adjustment of Rs 1.74 per unit, charged separately as part of the quarterly tariff adjustment mechanism designed to pass fuel price variations onto consumers. Notably, K-Electric announced a significant increase for consumers, Rs 2.59 per unit, for October.
