Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) has decided in principle to re-join the Sindh government led by Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), sources close to the two parties revealed on Tuesday.
The two parties also decided to jointly contest the Senate elections, according to sources. A four-member committee comprising two members from each party, will be constituted for the purpose.
PPP leader and former interior minister Rehman A. Malik and MQM chief Altaf Hussain held prolonged meeting in London late yesterday night. The sources said the MQM supremo is willing to join the provincial government.
MQM leader Mustafa Azizabadi said his party made a decision to join the provincial government in the “broader national interest”, adding that the former President Asif Ali Zardari had also assured the implementation of 60/40 formula.
He also said a four-member committee will be formed to settle the issues between the two parties.
It should be noted that the MQM had parted ways with the Sindh govt. over Bilawal Bhutto’s disparaging remarks against the party and its leaders.
