Mustafa Kamal, the Senior Deputy Convener of Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P), has confirmed the authenticity of an audio leak that surfaced on social media while emphasizing the longstanding allegations of electoral fraud among political rivals as old news.
Kamal, a former Karachi mayor and elected MNA, confirmed his voice in the contentious clip via a concise message.
The audio in question captures Kamal briefing the MQM-P’s Rabita Committee on a nocturnal meeting with Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) officials amid ongoing discussions about forming a government at the national level.
He portrayed the PML-N’s demeanour as unenthusiastic towards the MQM-P delegation, revealing the confidentiality of their discussions but hinting at PPP’s accusations against MQM-P’s electoral legitimacy and suggestions of sidelining MQM-P due to the alleged secure numbers by PML-N and PPP for government formation.
Kamal later clarified the situation, stressing the public nature of PPP’s accusations against MQM-P’s mandate and vice versa, thus downplaying the leak’s significance. He highlighted the meeting’s context within the Rabita Committee, mentioning suspicions about MQM-London affiliates infiltrating their ranks. A forensic analysis confirmed the leak’s source, attributed to MQM-London, which Kamal suggested was perceived mistakenly by them as a significant revelation.
