The govt. has issued National Identity Card for Overseas Pakistanis (NICOP) and passport to hospitalized Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader Altaf Hussain, who is currently under arrest in London for his alleged involvement in laundering huge amounts of money.
“The NICOP and passport will be delivered to Altaf Hussain in the due course”, Federal Minister for information, Broadcasting & National Heritage, Senator Pervaiz Rashid said in a statement issued here.
Earlier, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) Thursday said that Pakistan’s request for consular access to Hussain has been considered as well as approved.
Following this development, Acting Pakistan High Commissioner in London, Imran Mirza, called on Hussain at London’s Wellington Hospital and assured him of government of Pakistan’s full cooperation.
