Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, the Army Chief, leaders of intelligence agencies, all provincial chief ministers, and federal ministers attended the Apex Committee meeting on Tuesday in Islamabad.

Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif led the meeting during a period of escalating political tensions that could significantly affect national politics.

Journalist Ansar Abbasi reported that Ali Amin Gandapur, the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, was advised to refrain from organizing protests from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to Punjab, warning that such actions could disrupt inter-provincial harmony.

Abbasi also reported that the committee suggested that Gandapur mobilize PTI supporters within Punjab instead of transporting protesters from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Maryam Nawaz openly criticized Gandapur’s rally strategy, highlighting the potential risks to life and property. Gandapur responded calmly throughout the discussion, articulating the challenges faced by PTI.

He also expressed concerns about the incarceration of Imran Khan and the treatment of PTI workers, stating that Imran Khan had been unjustly imprisoned for a year and decried the oppressive conditions PTI workers endured in Punjab.

According to insiders, although Maryam Nawaz’s tone was somewhat aggressive, Gandapur’s composed response prevented any escalation in their conversation. The critical Apex meeting was held when political stakes were extremely high, and each decision potentially impacted the nation’s political scene.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Gandapur sat together, with the IG Islamabad positioned just behind them. Journalist Ansar Abbasi interpreted this seating arrangement as indicative of potential behind-the-scenes reconciliation efforts. Sources confirmed that the meeting did not address negotiations between PTI, the government, or the establishment.
