A major power breakdown struck Karachi overnight.

According to initial report from K-Electric, the areas affected are II Chundrigar Road, Saddar, Burns Road, North Karachi, New Karachi, Federal B. Area and Gulistan-e-Jauhar.

The other affected areas are Nazimabad, North Nazimabad, Landhi, Korangi, Shadman Town, Buffer Zone, Malir, Shah Faisal Colony, Bahadurabad, Defence, Gulshan-e-Iqbal and Liaquatabad.

According to local news channel ‘Samaa Tv’, the K-Electric said nearly 80 percent of Karachi is in the dark owing to the massive power outage.

According to KE spokesman, the extra high tension wire of 500KV tripped near Jamshoro.

According to sources, Wapda’s 500kv transmission line tripped causing a blast in extra high tension line passing through National Highway. When contacted, the K-Electric officials said the cause of tripping will be ascertained, then the repair work will be started.

K-Electric did not give any time frame for the restoration of power supply to the city, saying the engineers will determine the fault in the first step.
