Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) called a core committee meeting on Sunday to discuss emergency measures and governor’s rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and decide its next steps.
Party chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman is to chair the Central Core Committee session, scheduled for 4:00 pm PKT.
A party spokesperson said members would review the country’s political situation and determine JUI-F’s future course of action.
President Asif Ali Zardari approved the emergency and governor’s rule after receiving advice from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. He signed the summary under Articles 232 and 234 of the Constitution.
The presidential proclamation cited a sharp increase in terrorist incidents and serious security threats as grounds for the measures. It described the situation in KP as a serious emergency requiring immediate constitutional action.

According to the proclamation, attacks on government installations and law enforcement agencies had increased. Those attacks posed serious risks to security and public order.
The declaration accused the provincial government of failing to take adequate measures against terrorism and lawlessness.
It cited a governor’s report describing disruptions in the constitutional system. That report alleged that the provincial administration was not functioning in accordance with the Constitution.
The spokesperson added that Rehman is scheduled to address the media at 5:00 pm PKT after the committee meeting.
