Major General Rizwan Akhtar was named new Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) chief on Monday.
Akhtar had worked as DG Rangers Sindh in the past. The new chief will take charge once DG ISI Zaheerul Islam retires from his post.
The post of ISI chief is the second most important after that of the army chief. Further, the ISI chief is appointed by the prime minister on the recommendation of the army chief.
The decision by the military headquarters had come at a time when a joint operation by police and Rangers against terrorists and criminal elements in Karachi had been in its full swing.
