Lady Gaga set a new world record for the largest standalone concert by a female artist, attracting 2.1 million fans to Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro on May 3, 2025. The free event, part of Rio’s “Todo Mundo no Rio” initiative, surpassed Madonna’s 2024 record and boosted the local economy by $106 million.

Gaga’s historic concert, her first in Brazil since 2012, featured hits like “Bad Romance” and “Born This Way,” alongside tracks from her new album, Mayhem. Fans, many in costumes inspired by her iconic videos, filled the beach from dawn, with 500,000 tourists contributing to a 600 million reais economic surge, per local authorities. Gaga rehearsed live the night before, thrilling onlookers with, “It feels like the real show.”

Rio’s City Hall, with private sponsors, organised the event under a 2028 tourism strategy. For safety, 5,000 security personnel, drones, and surveillance were deployed. Fireworks capped the night, cementing Copacabana’s status as a global cultural hub.

Following recent Mexico City shows, the Mayhem World Tour continues with South American and European dates. Gaga’s record-breaking performance solidifies her as a live music titan, outdrawing Madonna’s 1.6 million at the same venue.
