Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has banned complimentary accommodations for VIPs and their families at government rest houses.
Zahid Chan Zeib, the provincial advisor for tourism, culture, and archaeology, announced this policy change through an official notification, citing public complaints about VIPs’ prolonged, cost-free stays.
In light of these concerns, the advisor has directed that even provincial government officials and their families will be subject to charges if they use these facilities, ensuring that these rest houses are available to the public. This policy will be enforced across various regions, including the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Cultural and Tourism Authority, Kalash, Galiyat, Kaghan, Upper Swat, and Kumrat.
This move follows the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government’s earlier decision to open over 170 government rest houses to the public, including high-profile properties such as the Governor House and the Chief Minister’s House.
The initiative is part of an effort to fulfil the Prime Minister’s commitment to making government buildings accessible to the public. Increasing government asset utilisation will generate additional revenue and enhance public service.
