Ontario, Canada: A Canadian man, Kenneth Law, pleaded guilty on Friday, May 29, to 14 counts of aiding suicide in a case involving lethal “suicide packets” sent to people in 41 countries.
Prosecutors withdrew 14 first-degree murder charges under a plea deal in Ontario court. Law, 60, faces up to 14 years in prison when he is sentenced in September.
Investigators said Law sold toxic chemicals online with instructions on how to use them. The court was told he disguised the operation as a legitimate product business linked to items such as hot sauce.
The court heard that Law sent 1,209 packages to customers across 41 countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, Italy and Germany. The law was linked to 112 deaths in the United Kingdom.
Law had previously denied knowingly helping people die by suicide. On Friday, he told Justice Michelle Fuerst that he knew what he had done and was ready to plead guilty.
Victim impact statements are scheduled for September.
