Renowned pop icon Katy Perry’s tenure as a judge on the popular music competition, American Idol, seems to be at a crossroads. According to a report by The U.S. Sun, Perry, celebrated for chart-toppers like “Firework” and “Roar,” is mulling over stepping back from her role on the show to concentrate on her personal life. This includes spending more quality time with her husband, acclaimed actor Orlando Bloom, and their young two-year-old daughter, Daisy.
With Perry at 38 and Bloom at 40, they are aware that the ideal window to extend their family might be now. On top of that, Perry, who has sat in the judge’s chair for six seasons of American Idol, wishes to refocus on her passion – creating music, according to an insider associated with the show.
Yet, these personal factors might not be the only drivers behind Perry’s contemplation of leaving her prominent position on the show.
Negotiations with ABC could be a Roadblock While Perry earns a notable $30 million from American Idol, a figure that includes her salary, endorsements, and various other deals related to the show, it is understood to be relatively small when compared to the potential earnings she could secure from live performances, tours, and concerts.
Rumor has it that the network has refused to entertain Perry’s request for an increase in her contractual remuneration, a move that has caused disillusionment for the star who has given so much to the show and network, as per an informant for The U.S. Sun.
Backlash from Fans might also be Influencing Perry’s Decision Perry’s outspoken persona as a judge has occasionally caused friction with the American Idol fan base.
Perry faced some challenging situations in the latest season. For the first time, she found herself on the receiving end of boos after she advised a contestant, Nusta, to go glitter-free in her next performance. Fellow judge, Luke Bryan, seemingly enjoying the crowd’s disapproval, which was perceived to have left Perry somewhat distressed.
Furthermore, Perry drew criticism for declining to support 16-year-old contestant Paige Anne, despite her receiving affirmative votes from co-judges Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan. Perry also received flak for her remarks to another contestant, Sara Beth Liebe, for which she was perceived as judging her lifestyle after Liebe disclosed that she was a 25-year-old mother with three kids.
While Perry appeared to be genuinely enjoying the finale of American Idol Season 21, which celebrated fan-favorite Iam Tongi as the winner, her future commitment to her judging role on the show is shrouded in uncertaint.
