PHILADELPHIA: The 76ers roster will contain 14 standard-contract players after Kentavious Caldwell-Pope completes his move, leaving one spot open but little immediate salary room to fill it.
Philadelphia traded second-year forward-centre Johni Broome and a 2027 second-round pick to the Los Angeles Clippers for cash considerations on Tuesday, July 28.
The transaction created the roster and salary space needed to add Caldwell-Pope while remaining below the NBA’s first apron, Field Level Media reported.
Caldwell-Pope agreed to a buyout with the Memphis Grizzlies and plans to sign a one-year, $3.9 million contract after clearing waivers. He won the 2020 NBA championship alongside LeBron James with the Los Angeles Lakers.
James officially joined Philadelphia on a two-year deal worth about $8 million. The 41-year-old joins Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, Jaylen Brown, VJ Edgecombe and Anfernee Simons on the revamped 76ers roster.

Philadelphia waived Dalen Terry before trading Broome to accommodate James and Caldwell-Pope. The moves left the franchise approximately $1.8 million below the $209 million first-apron threshold.
That margin is insufficient for another veteran-minimum contract before the season without an additional roster move. Philadelphia could keep the final standard spot vacant until a minimum deal becomes cheaper during the season, according to Liberty Ballers’ salary-cap analysis.
