Karachi Port vessel calls crossed 2,000 for the first time in nearly eight years. The port handled 2,003 ships from July 2025 to June 13, 2026, officials said.
Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry said the figure surpassed the 2,000-vessel mark last recorded in fiscal year 2017-18. This is according to Karachi Port Trust data.
The vessels carried a combined gross registered tonnage of 84.43 million tons. Chaudhry said vessel calls rose 7.5% from the same period last year, while gross registered tonnage increased 3.0%.
Karachi Port Trust Chairman Rear Admiral (Retd) Shahid Ahmed linked the rise to higher shipping activity and better operational efficiency. Additionally, he credited the increase to continued confidence from international shipping lines.
Ahmed said Karachi Port, established in 1887, remains a major hub for containerised cargo, bulk commodities and general trade. He said the port connects Pakistan with key regional and global shipping routes.

Chaudhry said the milestone reflected stronger commercial activity and wider use of port infrastructure. He said Karachi Port remains Pakistan’s main maritime gateway for imports, exports and logistics activity.
The minister said the Karachi Port Trust team had worked to improve maritime connectivity and modernise operations. Furthermore, they aimed to attract investment into Pakistan’s logistics and maritime sectors.
