Federal Shariat Court Chief Justice Sardar Mohammad Raza Khan has been named as new the chief election commissioner, sources confided.
A meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on the appointment of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) in Islamabad took the decision in this regard.
The committee was tasked with picking a suitable candidate of the three shortlisted names.
Federal Shariat Court Chief Justice Sardar Mohammad Raza Khan and retired Justices Tanvir Ahmed Khan and Tariq Pervez Khan were the candidates shortlisted by government and the opposition for the office of chief election commissioner.
Their names were formally sent to the parliamentary committee for final selection after completion of the consultation process between the government and the opposition.
