Actor Kit Harington said the Jon Snow sequel is not dead, but he would only return if HBO finds a story worthy of the “Game of Thrones” character.
Harington gave the update at Motor City Comic Con, saying it was “open knowledge” that the team had tried to make a Jon Snow show but could not find the right version.
The proposed HBO spin-off was first reported in 2022 as a direct sequel to “Game of Thrones.” It would have followed Jon after the events of season 8, when he went beyond the Wall with the Free Folk.
Harington said the project was not delayed because of scheduling or interest. He said his main concern was avoiding any story that would do “an injustice” to Jon, whose ending he believes already worked.

The actor said he would consider returning only if a new arc deepened Jon’s journey. The source said that could include exile, trauma and leadership without a throne, but no official storyline has been confirmed.
Harington had said in 2024 that the project was “off the table.” HBO programming chief Casey Bloys later left the door open, saying the network could try again.
HBO has continued expanding the “Game of Thrones” franchise through “House of the Dragon” and “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.” Harington is currently working on other projects, including voicing Gilderoy Lockhart in the “Harry Potter” full-cast audiobooks.
