Iran revealed a new air defence system, including the domestically produced Arman anti-ballistic missile system and the Azarakhsh low-altitude air defence system.
According to IRNA news agency reports amid escalating regional tensions, highlighted by attacks from Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthi militants on ships associated with the U.S., UK, and Israel in the Red Sea, expressing support for Gaza. Since October 7, Gaza has faced military actions from Israel following Hamas’s assaults on Israel’s southern region.
In retaliation to the Houthi offensives, the U.S. has engaged targets within Yemen and facilities linked to Iran-supported factions in Iraq and Syria, which led to reprisal attacks on U.S. military installations in Syria and Iraq. Israel, too, has targeted Iranian positions in Syria.
Introducing these vehicle-mounted systems, attended by Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Ashtiani, significantly enhances Iran’s air defence capabilities. The IRNA broadcast that the Arman missile system can engage six targets simultaneously within a 120- to 180-km range. Meanwhile, the Azarakhsh missile system, equipped with four missiles ready for launch, can identify and neutralize targets up to 50 km away.
Furthermore, in June, Iran showcased the Fattah, its inaugural domestically developed hypersonic ballistic missile, as reported by officials.
