Despite facing delays with its suite of artificial intelligence (AI) features, Apple is set to launch its iPhone 16 series as planned this September.
Mark Gurman from Bloomberg has reported that while the upcoming iOS 18 update, coinciding with the iPhone 16 release, will exclude the anticipated Apple Intelligence features, the new smartphone series will not be delayed.
Key Updates:
- Launch Timing: Apple typically introduces new iPhones in September and updates the latest operating system. Historical exceptions, like the October launch of the iPhone 4S, were due to additional software polishing.
- Software Rollout: Gurman suggests that the Apple Intelligence suite might debut in the iOS 18.1 update in October instead of the initial launch. Significant features presented at Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference 2024, such as the Image Playground, are expected to be part of this rollout.
- Potential Delays: Some advanced features, particularly those enhancing Siri’s AI capabilities, might not be available until 2025. The iOS 18.4 beta is anticipated to reach developers by January 2025 and be released to the public later in the year.
This strategy indicates Apple’s ongoing commitment to integrate cutting-edge AI technology into its devices despite facing developmental challenges. The September event will focus on the hardware launch, with software enhancements to follow.
