Inspector General Sindh (IG) Ghulam Haider Jamali along with Additional IG Karachi visited the school that was attacked with powerful firecrackers in Gulshan Iqbal, block-7 today (Wednesday) and stated that the process of beefing-up the security arrangements of schools is underway.
As per details, Additional IG Karachi Ghulam Qadir Thebo briefed the IG Sindh regarding the attack.
While talking to the media, IG Sindh assured that the police officers are investigating the incident whereas school administration has also been ordered to update their CCTV cameras.
Earlier yesterday, Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Rabita Committee visited schools targeted by cracker attacks.
Rauf Siddiqui, on the occasion, said that the attacks were a question upon the security being provided to the educational institutions.
He further urged Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Federal Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan to take notice of the incident.
MQM chief Altaf Hussain also condemned terrorist attacks on schools. In his statement, Altaf Hussain said militants were targeting students in educational institutes in the name of Islam.
He criticized the provincial government for not providing adequate security to the schools and children despite grave threats.
Earlier, fear and panic gripped the area when some unknown miscreants hurled two cracker bombs on a school on Abul Hassan Isphahani Road in Gulshan-e-Iqbal area of the metropolis of Karachi.
According to police, the attack took place at 6:30am whereas the suspects managed to flee from the scene.
Fortunately, no one was hurt in the incident as no student was present in the school early morning.
According to DIG Munir Sheikh, one cracker bomb was hurled inside the school while another was tossed outside the building.
Governor Sindh Dr Ishratul Ibad took notice of the incident and sought details from Commissioner. He also directed the education department to implement decisions regarding security of the schools.
Authorities have started gathering evidence from the scene.
The attackers have also left pamphlets in impeccable English and Urdu threatening more terror attacks against children if hangings of convicted terrorists continue.
