WASHINGTON: A Joe Biden cancer update from his son Hunter says the former US president’s prostate cancer has spread further and is causing severe pain and debilitation.
Hunter Biden discussed his 83-year-old father’s condition during a BBC Newsnight interview broadcast late on August 7.
“The cancer has spread, metastasised into his bones and further,” Hunter said. He described the illness as painful and debilitating.
However, Hunter did not specify where the cancer had spread beyond the bones. A spokesperson for the former president declined to comment on the interview, the Associated Press reported.
Joe Biden’s office announced in May 2025 that doctors had diagnosed an aggressive form of prostate cancer. The office said tests showed a Gleason score of 9 (Grade Group 5) with bone metastasis.

The former president later received hormone treatment and completed a course of radiation therapy in October 2025.
Hunter said the illness had been difficult for the Biden family to witness. However, he said his father remained publicly engaged and continued speaking about issues important to him.

Joe Biden served as the 46th president of the United States from 2021 to 2025. He was the oldest person to hold the office.
Little, Brown and Company will publish Biden’s presidential memoir, Promise Me, America, on November 17, according to the publisher.
