Pak High Commission harbours high hopes that India frees Pakistani prisoners after Geeta’s return

After Geeta’s return to India, Pakistan’s High Commission in India has expressed the hope that India would reciprocate by freeing Pakistani prisoners languishing in Indian jails.

Pakistan’s High Commissioner to India Abdul Basit and his wife are hosting Geeta and the Edhi family this evening at a reception at the Pakistani High Commission building in New Delhi, said the High Commission.

Representatives of the Pakistani High Commission, Press Attaché Manzoor Ali Memon and Political Counsellor Ms Ayesha Ahsan, were also present at the airport to receive Geeta when her flight landed in New Delhi.

Geeta, the deaf-mute girl who was stranded in Pakistan for over a decade, arrived in New Delhi today to reunite with the people she believes are her family.

Geeta was believed to be 11 or 12 when she crossed over the Pakistani border from neighbouring India and became stuck in Pakistan because she was unable to identify herself or say where she came from.

Geo News had broken the news three years ago about Geeta’s presence at the Edhi Home in Karachi – a charity shelter for the destitute and homeless – where she had stayed for 13 years.
