LONDON: France Morocco 2-0 celebrations turned disorderly on Edgware Road after France beat Morocco in a FIFA World Cup 2026 quarter-final in Boston.
Four arrests and one police officer were injured. The Metropolitan Police said officers first responded after a group blocked traffic.
The force said the incident escalated when people threw bottles and set off fireworks. One officer went to the hospital with a head injury after police said he was hit by a glass bottle. The Metropolitan Police said officers arrested four people on suspicion of violent disorder.
France advanced with second-half goals from Kylian Mbappé and Ousmane Dembélé, according to match reports. The result sent France into the semi-finals after Morocco’s run ended in Boston.

Footage shared on social media appeared to show flares and missiles thrown at officers in the London street.
Police said they would review CCTV and video footage to identify others involved.

The road reopened around 1 am after officers remained in the area and the crowd dispersed, the Metropolitan Police said.
In France, a 17-year-old girl died while celebrating the win, emergency services said. Authorities said she fell from a truck and was run over in Aulnoye-Aymeries, near Maubeuge.
The driver of the truck was detained, and another teenager who witnessed the incident was taken to the hospital in shock.
