On Tuesday, a high-level promotion board approved the promotions of four major generals to the rank of lieutenant general.

Four major generals –DG ISPR Asim Saleem Bajwa, Sadiq Ali, Umar Durrani and Aamir Riaz – have been promoted to the rank of lieutenant general, according to a statement from the military’s media wing, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

Further, Lt Gen Ikramul Haq was posted as Gujranwala corps commander, Lt Gen Malik Zafar Iqbal as Rawalpindi corps commander, Lt Gen Sadiq Ali as Lahore corps commander and Lt Gen Umar Farooq Durrani as Mangla corps commander.

“Lt Gen Hilal Hussain has been posted as commander of Army Strategic Force Command and Lt Gen Aamir Riaz as commander of Southern Command,” ISPR added.

The newly-promoted lieutenant generals, approved by a board headed by Army chief General Raheel Sharif, will be posted to new positions within the next two months.

Major-General Amir Riaz is currently serving as Director General of Military Operations. Before he was appointed DG ISPR in 2012 by then Army chief General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani, Bajwa was posted in Dera Ismail Khan as a general officer commanding.
