FIFA cancelled FIFA World Cup tickets issued to about 60 fans after a website error allowed them to receive tickets for free, the governing body said.
FIFA said the tickets were issued at no charge due to a prior payment issue during checkout. The error affected tickets sold through the official World Cup site on May 21.
The governing body said it regretted the mistake and any inconvenience caused. However, it said the requested tickets remain reserved for the affected fans. FIFA has invited those fans to complete payment at the correct price.
The error marks another issue in the World Cup ticketing program. The attorneys general of New York and New Jersey are investigating the program for possible consumer protection violations.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino had said more than three months earlier that all 104 World Cup games had sold out.

FIFA still sells World Cup tickets through its official platform. The tournament opens next Thursday in Mexico City.
The organisation also runs its own resale platform and takes a 15% commission from buyers and sellers. Tickets for the 2026 World Cup are more expensive than any previous edition.
