“When our engineers work tirelessly to improve security, we imagine we’re protecting you against criminals, not our government,” Zuckerberg said on his personal Facebook page.
“I’ve called President Obama to express my frustration over the damage the government is creating for all of our future. Unfortunately, it seems like it will take a very long time for true full reform,” the 29-year-old CEO continued.
Aside from the phone call, Zuckerberg also composed a 300-word post about his displeasure. This contains a series of allegations about the controversial practices the US government allegedly imposes on its citizens. The revelations were supported by Edward Snowden who’s the former National Security Agency contractor.
“The president spoke last night with Mark Zuckerberg about recent reports in the press concerning alleged activities by the U.S. intelligence community,” a White House official said.
Is it’s true? I am sure he must be in big trouble after WhatsApp deal
He spent a lot of money aquiring Whatsapp. He is both rich and powerful enough to be taken seriously by “the powers that be”
WhatsApp deal got nothing to do NSA’s spying. NSA has exposed after Edward Snowden. NSA is full of bunch of idiots and they think terrorist can use FB and other social site for communication. I think, CIA is the biggest terrorist organization. They do the covert wars around the globe. CIA operates on MY and YOUR side to get their objective.
It’s not the first time Zuckerberg has publicly vocal over the NSA’s Internet surveillance.
But his phone call to Obama, this is the first time he has raised the issue directly with Obama. Previously he met with the Obama, but weeks again he did not attend a White House session when other tech executives reportedly voiced concerns about the NSA.
Facebook, Google and other tech companies have recently increased efforts to encrypt data transmissions and guard against intrusion by government agencies or other hackers.
It’s won’t be much difficult for Mark to keep NSA guys away from facebook database. I am sure Facbook and other tech companies have much better nerds than NSA.
We all should follow on the security tips for every user from Edward Snowden
Full disk encryption
This protects your hardware, meaning your physical computer. TrueCrypt is a good free option. It is open-source encryption for Macs, Windows 7/Vista/XP, and Linux.
Network encryption
Browser plug-ins and SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) will suffice. Block Prism for Chrome secures Facebook messaging. NoScript for Firefox, ScriptSafe for Chrome, and Disconnect for Safari are viable plug-ins.
Tor
Tor is a more dramatic step you can take to stay secure. It’s a network of virtual tunnels (a mix routing network) that sends your ISP to a cloud through a network of routers, making it impossible for your telecommunications provider to spy on you by default. Learn more at TorProject.org
I want the next WhatsApp and the next Twitter to have end-to-end encrypted communication
