NEW YORK, United States: E Jean Carroll’s payment of $5.62 million has been released ( 1,562,922,000 Pakistani Rupees) after years of litigation over her sexual abuse and defamation case against Donald Trump, court records showed.
The payment included interest on a 2023 federal civil verdict that awarded Carroll $5 million, CBS News reported.
The money had remained in a court-controlled account while Trump appealed. The Supreme Court cleared the way for payment on June 29 when it declined to hear his appeal.
Carroll told readers of her Substack newsletter that “The Eagle Has Landed” after receiving the funds, according to CBS News. Her lead attorney, Roberta Kaplan, said Carroll had received the jury-awarded damages payment.
A unanimous federal jury in 2023 found Trump liable for sexually abusing Carroll and defaming her. The jury rejected her rape claim under New York’s penal code definition.
Trump did not attend the 2023 civil trial. His lawyers called no witnesses before the nine-member jury awarded Carroll damages.
