Bungie will end active development on “Destiny 2” after a final major content update on June 9, 2026, while keeping the online game playable.
The studio said the game will remain available for the foreseeable future in a maintained but limited state. The move marks a major shift for a title that has been running for more than 8 years.
Bungie will also repackage the game as “Destiny 2: The Collection.” The bundle will include major expansions, dungeon content and additional packs.
The final update, known internally as “Monument of Triumph,” is expected to address smaller narrative threads and keep some character arcs open. It will also bring back older Triumph-related systems, rewards, cosmetics and unlocks.
Bungie said the update will include a refreshed Director, a permanent Pantheon activity with new bosses and changes to core systems. Some older seasonal structures will phase out, while Sparrow Racing League will return in some form.

The studio is shifting focus to future projects, including “Marathon.” Bungie said “Destiny 2” will stay accessible for players even as the company moves into its next development phase.
