Federal Minister for Finance, Senator Ishaq Dar, spoke about how he is taking serious actions in order to stabilize the prices of potatoes in the market. He claimed that he understands that potato is a necessary and essential commodity in the market and he needs to bring down its price level to where it is appropriate.
He spoke about this incident while chairing a meeting at the Finance Ministry. The meeting’s subject was ‘agricultural products’ prices in the country. and each and every member discussed how important agricultural products should come down to a stable price where people can afford them easily.
It was brought to his attention that there are 1.1 million tons of surplus potatoes in the country and the prices of the commodity are only artificially manipulated.
He was also informed that in the neighbouring country, potatoes are being sold at a much lower price.
