The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced on Friday that comedian, writer, and former late-night host Conan O’Brien will host the 97th Oscars.
It would be Conan O’Brie’s first time hosting the ceremony, which ABC will broadcast live from the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday, March 2, 2025.
Academy CEO Bill Kramer and President Janet Yang praised O’Brien, stating, “He is the perfect person to help lead our global celebration of the film with his brilliant humour, love of movies, and live TV expertise.” They further remarked, “His remarkable ability to connect with audiences will unite viewers to celebrate this year’s spectacular films and filmmakers.”
O’Brien, 61, humorously commented on his new role, saying, “America demanded it, and now it’s happening: Taco Bell’s new Cheesy Chalupa Supreme. In other news, I’m hosting the Oscars.”
Known for his tenure on popular late-night shows such as ‘Late Night with Conan O’Brien,’ ‘The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien,’ and ‘Conan,’ he follows in the footsteps of Jimmy Kimmel, who hosted the 2024 Oscars.
Oscars executive producers Raj Kapoor and Katy Mullan praised O’Brien’s qualifications for the role, stating, “Conan possesses all the qualities of a great Oscars host — he is incredibly witty, charismatic, and funny, and has proven himself a master of live event television.”
