Despite Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s support, achieving constitutional amendments might still be out of reach due to a shortfall of 12 MNAs and 8 Senators.
Vlogger Hasnaat Malik reported that the required two-thirds majority is further complicated by the delay in Senate elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which could influence the voting dynamics. Malik elaborated that concerns are growing within the Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) that the potential appointment of Justice Mansoor Ali Shah as Chief Justice could destabilize the government.
In terms of numerical strength, if Maulana Fazlur Rehman commits the support of his 8 members in the National Assembly and 5 in the Senate, the government would secure 220 votes in the National Assembly, just four votes short of the required 224 for a two-thirds majority.
Ahmad Waraich indicated that with this support, the Senate count could rise to 61 votes, leaving the government needing 3 more votes to reach the necessary two-thirds threshold of 64. Waraich suggested that these additional votes could potentially come from the 3 members of the ANP to achieve the required majority.
