London, United Kingdom: BYD Flash Charging units capable of delivering up to 1.5 megawatts will arrive in the UK by the end of 2026, the Chinese automaker said.
The company plans to install about 200 to 300 charging stations across Britain. Early locations are expected at dealerships before the network expands to other sites.
Electrifying reported that BYD intends to install 300 Flash chargers in the UK before the end of 2026. The chargers can deliver up to 1,500kW, also described as 1.5 megawatts.
TechRadar reported that BYD demonstrated a Denza Z9 GT charging from 10% to 97% in nine minutes at its West London headquarters. The demonstration used a 1,500kW charger with a CCS2 connector.
The technology is already operating in China, where BYD has installed thousands of charging stations. BYD says compatible electric vehicles can gain hundreds of miles of driving range after only a few minutes of charging.
The first UK sites are expected to support the Denza Z9 GT, which uses BYD’s newer battery and platform technology. The Z9 GT can charge from 10% to 70% in five minutes on the Flash network.
BYD is expanding in the British market as electric and hybrid vehicle sales grow. Industry experts said ultra-fast charging could ease concerns over charging time and range anxiety.
