The Investigation Officer (IO) in the Baldia Town factory carnage earlier yesterday submitted a fresh Joint Investigation Team (JIT) report in the court.
The report revealed that Rehman Bhola and Hammad Siddiqui had demanded Rs250 million extortion from the factory, however, the owners had agreed to give only Rs10 million.
The report further states that on refusal, Zubair alia Chariya along with four unidentified accomplices set the factory on fire with chemicals.
Meanwhile, the public prosecutor has demanded to lodge fresh FIR of the case in the light the JIT report. He also claimed the investigation officer was not taking interest to arrest the fugitives in the case.
On this, the court directed DIG West for departmental action against the IO.
The 2012 deadly inferno that had engulfed a garment factory in Baldia Town killing over 200 workers was an organised act of terror, a report by the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) had revealed.
Many astounding disclosures have been made in the report including the Punjab Forensic Science Academy’s tests proving that the blaze was caused by explosive material.
According to the JIT report, in-charge of the garment factory’s furnishing department Zubair was involved in setting the factory ablaze. Plastic bags full of explosive chemical were thrown in the factory for that purpose, it added.
It also revealed that Rehman Bhola and Hammad Siddiqui ordered the terrorist act after the factory owners refused to give them partnership and extortion money.
