Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi agreed to facilitate a meeting with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan before Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s emergency.
Government representatives informed PTI that one lawyer and one family member could visit its founder. Naqvi’s proposed arrangement required the meeting to follow the jail manual.
Sources said the party’s political and core committees considered lawyer Mashal Yousafzai for the legal representative’s role. Bushra Bibi’s daughter was proposed as the family visitor.
Party members opposed Yousafzai’s nomination.
She subsequently withdrew her name from consideration, according to the sources. They described the withdrawal as following objections within PTI to her participation in the proposed visit.
In their account, the party reached a consensus on Bushra Bibi’s daughter as the family representative. However, Sohail Afridi rejected that decision.
Separately, President Asif Ali Zardari signed a summary on Sunday imposing an emergency and Governor’s Rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He acted on Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s advice under Articles 232 and 234 of the Constitution.
