Pakistan’s star batter, Babar Azam, has risen to second place on the all-time leading run-scorer list in men’s T20 Internationals, overtaking India’s Virat Kohli this Monday.
Babar reached this milestone during the third T20I against Australia at Bellerive Oval, scoring 41 runs. Despite his achievement, Pakistan lost to Australia, who clinched a 3-0 series win in the final match.
With 4,192 T20I runs, Babar has now edged past Kohli’s 4,188 runs. India’s Rohit Sharma continues to lead with 4,231 runs. Babar needs just 40 more runs to surpass Sharma and become the top run-scorer, especially now that Sharma and Kohli have retired from T20I cricket following India’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 victory.
Babar is one of two Pakistani players in the Top 10 for most T20I runs, the other being Mohammad Rizwan, the current white-ball captain.
Interestingly, Babar, who recently resigned as Pakistan’s white-ball captain before the Australia tour, has faced challenges with his form. In the three-match ODI series, he managed only 80 runs and continued to struggle in the T20Is, scoring just three in the first two matches before his 41-run effort in the final game.
