On Wednesday, Azerbaijan Airlines flight 8432, with at least 72 passengers, experienced a crash near Aktau, Kazakhstan, as confirmed by the country’s Emergencies Ministry.
Originally travelling from Baku to Grozny, Russia, the flight was redirected to Aktau due to foggy conditions in Grozny, as reported by Russian media.
Following the crash, the aircraft ignited. Emergency teams rapidly responded to the scene, successfully extinguishing the fire. Early reports indicate the possibility of survivors, though their exact number remains uncertain.
A rescue effort involving 52 personnel and 11 equipment units is underway, coordinated by Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Emergency Situations.
As recovery operations continue, efforts to ascertain the identities and conditions of the victims proceed.
Azerbaijan Airlines has not yet stated the crash. Local authorities are actively investigating the matter.
In a separate incident last week, a small aircraft crashed into a commercial zone in Gramado, southern Brazil, resulting in at least nine fatalities. The plane collided with a building’s chimney, impacted the residence’s second floor, and subsequently crashed into a furniture store, according to the Rio Grande do Sul state security secretariat.
