Australia set a new world record, achieving the highest run total in a T20I powerplay during their match against Scotland at the Grange Cricket Club.
The team, led by Mitchell Marsh, amassed 113 runs with the loss of one wicket in the first six overs, targeting Scotland’s 155.
The innings began precariously as opener Jake Fraser-McGurk was out for a duck on the third ball. Yet, alongside Travis Head, Marsh quickly reversed the team’s fortunes, aggressively targeting Scotland’s bowlers.
Their vigorous batting steadied Australia and set a new powerplay record of 113 runs, overtaking South Africa’s previous 102/0 against the West Indies in 2023.
Marsh was dismissed early in the seventh over, but Head continued the onslaught, scoring 80 runs from 25 balls. His remarkable inning featured five sixes and 12 fours, steering Australia to an easy win.
Australia achieved the 155-run target in 9.4 overs, with three wickets down.
Previously, only South Africa had surpassed 100 runs in a T20I powerplay.
This record-breaking performance cements Australia’s status as a powerhouse in international cricket.
