At least 316 Pakistanis, including Asad Murtaza Gilani, nephew of former prime minister Yousuf Raza Gilani have gone missing in the aftermath of a deadly stampede, which killed more than 700 pilgrims at Mina yesterday.

According to Family sources that disclosed earlier today that amongst the missing Pakistanis is Asad Murtaza Gilani, former MNA and nephew of former prime minister Yousuf Raza Gilani.

The family of Murtaza Gilani said they have lost contact with the former MP since the stampede occurred in Mina.

The family said they had contacted the Pakistani Embassy in Saudi Arabia to find whereabouts of Murtaza who was performing his third Haj.

Director General Haj, Abu Akif said on Friday that 316 Pakistani pilgrims are missing since the Mina tragedy in which 717 pilgrims were martyred, including seven Pakistanis.

He said Pakistani authorities have yet not been granted access to hospitals where the injured are being treated but they were collecting data from morgues and would make the details public shortly.

“Initially there was report of 402 missing Pakistanis; however, we managed to contact 86 Pakistanis. Our doctors are present in morgues to get further details,” he said

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif took notice of the missing pilgrims and directed authorities to take steps for their recovery.
