KABUL, Afghanistan: Afghanistan’s drug arrests reached 85 in Takhar province after police seized more than one ton of illegal drugs over three months, provincial police said.
Provincial police spokesperson Nizamuddin Omir said the seizures included 590 kg of opium poppy, 202 kg of hashish and 205 kg of methamphetamine.
Police also seized several kilograms of heroin and 149 kg of other illicit substances and production materials. Xinhua reported the figures, citing Omir.
Authorities carried out the operations across Takhar province in northern Afghanistan. Omir said police destroyed more than 4,300 acres of poppy farms during the same period.

Police also rounded up 132 drug-addicted people and sent them to a rehabilitation centre in neighbouring Kunduz province.
The spokesperson said authorities would not tolerate the cultivation, processing or trafficking of narcotics in the region.
