SYRACUSE: US President Donald Trump praised New York Yankees president Randy Levine at a rally on Friday. Some Yankees fans responded online with curse jokes and criticism of the club’s leadership.
Trump defended Levine’s record despite the team’s recent playoff disappointment. He argued that the executive’s previous championship success outweighed a poor postseason and repeatedly praised his work.
Calling Levine “a really great executive, somebody who’s won the World Series”, Trump dismissed the latest setback.
Some supporters took a different view.
One social-media user joked that the organisation now faced an eternal curse. Another predicted that the Yankees would never win again. Both comments expressed pessimism through sarcasm rather than making a factual claim about the team’s prospects.
Other reactions focused more directly on Levine’s tenure. One commenter blamed him, in part, for the club’s 17-year championship drought. Another questioned how many World Series victories the Yankees achieved during his presidency.
Levine has held the position since 2000. New York won championships that year and in 2009, giving the club two titles during his tenure.
Criticism extended beyond the team president. One supporter sarcastically named both Levine and Lonn Trost in a comment about fans’ feelings toward the organisation’s executives.

New York’s historical record includes 27 World Series championships, the most in Major League Baseball. The Yankees’ most recent title came against the Philadelphia Phillies, whom they defeated in six games to lift the Commissioner’s Trophy.
In 2024, the club returned to the World Series but lost to the Los Angeles Dodgers in five games.
