Punjab continued to face severe petrol supply shortage for the eight consecutive day this morning prompting Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to convene an emergency meeting later today.
Long queues were seen outside petrol filling stations all across Punjab as the harried populace ran hither and thither for, but a few liters of the precious fuel.
In Lahore alone over 50 percent of the city’s filling stations were closed causing immense hardships for people who could not reach their offices, colleges and schools.
Although CNG filling stations were opened yesterday on government’s directives, they were not sufficient to meet the demand.
Prime Minister Sharif, who had taken serious notice of fuel shortage on his return from Saudi Arabia (where he had gone to call on the ailing king), has convened a meeting later today, focusing on provision of immediate relief to the people.
In statement issued from the Prime Minister House yesterday, the PM Sharif had said that people should not suffer and every measure would be taken to provide them relief on an ‘immediate basis’.
