Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif has directed Minister for Information and Broadcasting Pervaiz Rashid to contact leaders of political parties to reach a consensus over appointment of the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) of Pakistan and that to speed up the process.
Rashid contacted Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazal (JUI-F) chief Fazlur Rehman, Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Sirajul Haq, Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) head Aftab Sher Pao, National Party leader Hasil Bazenjo, Awami National Party (ANP) leader Senator Adeel and Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leaders including Babar Ghauri and Haider Abbas Rizvi over the telephone.
He urged them to finalize the CEC appointment matter. Pervaiz Rashid is also contacting other political parties’ leaders to resolve the matter following the PM’s directives.
