WHO sanctions “A little too strict”: Saira Tarar

State Minister for National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination Saira Afzal Tarar  called the UN health agency’s sanctions “a little too strict for Pakistan,”  and vowed to file an appeal against World Health Organization’s (WHO) polio inoculation certification related travel restrictions according to news reports.

The World Health Organization has issued an international alert over the resurgence of polio which comes with travel restrictions requiring from international travelers to show evidence of polio vaccination before applying for a visa in Pakistan.

Talking to media outside the Parliament House, the disgruntled state minister, accused the WHO of playing into the Taliban’s hands, saying the health body’s recommendations had isolated Pakistan and would make life harder for ordinary Pakistanis — thereby helping the militants achieve their goals.

“By recommending travel restrictions on Pakistan, the WHO has strengthened the forces that actually banned polio drops,” she said.
