Ashura, observed annually on the 10th of Muharram, solemnly commemorates Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS) and the martyrs of Karbala with heightened security measures.
Ashura’s day highlights the steadfast courage of the Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) grandson, Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS), his family, and his loyal companions, who bravely defended Islam against formidable adversities.
Mourning processions are organized in cities and towns nationwide to mark this day. Traditionally, the Pakistani government declares public holidays on the 9th and 10th of Muharram to honour Ashura.
In Pakistan, Ashura observed on the 9th and 10th of Muharram, is slated for Tuesday, July 16, and Wednesday, July 17, respectively, in 2024.
The holy month of Muharram, which also marks the beginning of the new Islamic year, is anticipated to commence on July 8. If the new Islamic month begins on July 18, Youm-e-Ashur 2024, also known as the Day of Ashura, will be officially observed on July 17 in Pakistan.
