Akram suffered a trauma last Wednesday when his silver metallic Mercedes coupe was hit by another car on the busy Karsaz Road, resulting in an exchange of harsh words and culminating in a firing incident. He remained unhurt.
The incident made headlines across the world and a high-level police team was formed to investigate the incident. The first development came on Friday when the investigators reportedly arrested the accused driver in a raid at his house in Quaidabad.
The accused was presented in a district East court on Monday to seek his remand. The investigators told the judicial magistrate, Kaneez Fatima, that the suspect and his absconding accomplice had hit the vehicle of the former cricketer, fired at him with intent to murder and fled. The police officer pleaded the judge grant him the suspect’s custody. The judge sent the suspect in police custody on a seven-day physical remand, seeking a progress report in the next hearing.
Meanwhile, the prime suspect, Amirur Rehman, who was shown as absconder in the police report, appeared before another court. Accompanied by his lawyers, Rehman submitted a bail before arrest plea to an additional sessions judge, Nadeem Ahmed Khan, contending that the case was registered against him with mala fide intentions. The judge, after listening to him, approved his bail plea with directions to the investigators to not arrest him until the next hearing of the case on August 18.
