Russian President Vladimir Putin has accused Alphabet’s YouTube of deliberately slowing down internet speeds in Russia, stating that Google must adhere to Russian regulations to continue its operations.

Critics argue that the Russian government is intentionally manipulating YouTube to block access to content that criticizes Putin and his administration. They support this claim with reports of reduced speeds and interruptions to curb the spread of dissenting views.

The Russian government denies these accusations and blames the slow YouTube speeds on Google’s alleged failure to upgrade its infrastructure. However, Google and various technology experts challenge this claim, arguing that outdated equipment does not cause the issues.

Despite denials from Roskomnadzor, Russia’s communications regulator, Russian internet monitoring services have recently reported significant outages affecting YouTube. These disruptions have intensified debates over internet freedom and content censorship in Russia.
