YouTube has expanded its AI-powered auto-dubbing feature to include channels focused on knowledge and information.
The enhancement, which debuted at last year’s VidCon, leverages Aloud, a technology from Google’s Area 120 incubator. The auto dubbing feature automatically transcribes and translates videos, enabling creators to reach a broader audience by overcoming language barriers.
Hundreds of thousands of channels within the YouTube Partner Program that focus on educational content can use this feature. Creators can automatically have their English videos dubbed into French, German, Hindi, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, and Spanish. Additionally, the feature supports reverse translation of content in these languages back into English.
Creators can use the YouTube AI auto dubbing feature without taking any additional steps. YouTube automatically detects the language of uploaded videos and dubs them into supported languages. Creators can access these dubbed versions in YouTube Studio under the Languages section, where they can also manage or delete dubs as they see fit.

YouTube recognizes that translations might occasionally stray or the dubbed voice may not perfectly match the original speaker. Thus, it actively encourages user feedback to improve the feature.
The company is dedicated to enhancing the quality of dubbed speech. The upcoming ‘Expressive Speech’ feature, previewed at the Made on YouTube event, aims to provide more accurate and natural speech, underscoring YouTube’s commitment to continuously improving user experience.
