Elon Musk, head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), announced on March 31, 2025, that an arrest is looming for someone who allegedly stole 400,000 Social Security numbers and personal data.
“I believe someone will be arrested tomorrow,” he said in a voice note shared on X by DogeDesigner. Musk tied the breach to illegal immigration and voter fraud, arguing that stolen identities let non-citizens vote. “Social Security is the main ID in the U.S. compromise it, and you enable fraud,” he explained.
Musk also slammed Democrats, claiming they’ve twisted government programs Social Security, Medicare, unemployment, and IRS refunds to favour undocumented immigrants. He alleged FEMA disaster relief funds were misused, saying, “They diverted money for Americans in need to pay for luxury hotels in New York for illegals.” No law enforcement has confirmed his claims yet.

Musk’s accusations echo his earlier jab at Social Security as “the biggest Ponzi scheme ever” on Joe Rogan’s podcast. President Trump decried “shocking incompetence and probable fraud” in the system in a March speech to Congress. However, speaking to NPR, former Social Security commissioner Michael Astrue called the administration clueless. “There’s a smart way to fix it and a stupid way right now; it’s like 22-year-old frat boys running it,” he said. Astrue warned DOGE lacks COBOL expertise, risking chaos in a system reliant on old code. “Musk’s doubling down misleads Trump,” he added.
